Welcome step forward with battery strategy and manufacturing plan

Reacting to the publication of the UK Government’s battery strategy and advanced manufacturing plan published this weekend, Rachel Solomon Williams, Executive Director of the Aldersgate Group, said: “We welcome the publication of the UK Government’s battery strategy and advanced manufacturing plans. To capitalise on the economic opportunities associated with the net zero transition, it is important that business have long-term policy clarity to make the necessary investments. Batteries will play a crucial role in the transition to net zero and the strategy marks an important development. Alongside delivery on the strategy, it is vital that Government accelerates its resource efficiency commitments so that the UK can better harness the vital minerals and materials it needs for the net zero transition. Meanwhile the advanced manufacturing plan is a welcome step towards the Aldersgate Group’s proposal for a renewed industrial strategy, which should also include a bold support package for industrial decarbonisation, a focus on skills development and a commitment on a UK carbon border adjustment mechanism.”
