Why do we need spatial planning for energy and how can it help us hit 2050?
Click here to register for an in-person panel event hosted by Aldersgate Group, with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, on Tuesday 23 April to discuss the UK’s spatial plan for energy.
The discussion will open with an introduction from Rachel Solomon Williams, Executive Director of Aldersgate Group, followed by a statement from Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero Justin Tomlinson MP, who will outline the Government’s ambitions for energy planning. The event will then turn to the panel discussion, which will feature expert insights on the current state of play and look to answer the title question – why do we need spatial planning for energy and how can it help us hit net zero by 2050?
We will also hear from Emma Pinchbeck, CEO of Energy UK, Kayte O’Neill, COO of ESO, Jonathan Brearley, CEO of Ofgem, and Bruno Gardner, Head of Climate Change and Nature, Phoenix Group. A Q&A for the panel will then follow.

Synopsis
Developing and retaining a thriving renewable energy sector will be crucial to ensure the UK’s energy security and accelerate decarbonisation, which will also go some way to support required emissions reductions elsewhere across the economy, from transport to heavy industry. A Spatial Energy Plan will provide a blueprint to increase investor certainty, by defining the optimal mix and location of clean generation and storage to meet forecast demand, net-zero targets and security of supply for all consumers.
The Aldersgate Group has convened this discussion to gain insights from experts on the future of the UK’s energy plan and how this can drive emissions reductions.
